The Final Blog of the Term: Kim's Convenience & Columbus

Closing off a wonderful term of various pieces of media we watched two different things which were Kim's Convenience and Columbus.  Both films are slightly similar in that they both feature themes of family, but both are unique in their own regard. Columbus was a film that I wasn't really looking forward to but I ended up enjoying it a lot.  One of things I wonder about this film as the process of selecting a location.  The architecture in this movie I felt were the true stars of the film.  The usage of the buildings as a backdrop was fit for the certain scene.  An example is how they might use windows or glass and how they interfere with dialog.  I wonder what this film would have been like if located in a different city.  One thing discussed in class that I feel is important was the accessibility of this movie. I feel like this movie isn't something that can be appreciated by everyone.  It is certainly a more film buff movie and it takes a certain passion of film to truly

The Only Alarm You Might Not Want To Snooze: Love Alarm

I was immediately interested to this show due solely to the fact that it involves a modern smart phone.  I feel like I haven't seen a movie that is able to successfully a gimmick phone plot and have it be good.  One recent example I can think of is a horror movie called Countdown in 2019.  Basically the plot was if you downloaded this app that told you when you were gunna die it was now completely unavabible and 100% to happen at that exact time.  Horror movies and this romance show are completely different, but what I am saying is that I am excited to see if a show is able to execute an interesting plot without it being too cheesy or anything.  In the end, I am glad to say that I liked the show and how it was able to use its smart phone plot for it. The opening of the show was very good a showing just how big Love Alarm is, to the point where it is just ruling over their heads through the medium of clouds.  It would seem that everyone's lives is just completely dominated by t

American Lifestyle in a Pandemic: Bling Empire

I can't say that I was particular a huge fan of Bling Empire.  For me, reality shows are hard to like, mostly because I know that a large portion if not all of it is staged.  While watching Bling Empire, I couldn't help but compare it t other first film we watched for the term which was Crazy Rich Asians.  Both films have to do with quite wealth individuals who live luxurious lives.  The difference I found to be between the two was how they lived their lifestyle.  Crazy Rich Asians seem much more traditional in the sense that it focused much more on family and traditions.  As we learned in the previous documentaries for the class, family history had a big emphasis.  Bling Empire on the other hand, seemed like a much more American lifestyle.  This people who didn't really work for their money just bought and did whatever they wanted.  There is weird drama that happens at the same time.  Bling Empire seems like a very American approach to this wealthy Asian lifestyle.  This m
